2013 Recap

December 2013

Season’s Greetings!  As 2013 quickly comes to an end and the holiday’s are among us, it is time to pause and reflect back upon this year.

January and February brought cold weather, some snow, but mostly a mushy mess.  It also was the beginning for some changes for our family.  Michael and I decided to put our Dike home up for sale, as Granddaddy Buzz wanted to downsize, and sell his house.  I just couldn’t bare the thought of some other family living in Granddaddy and Nonna’s home.  After much discussion and prayer, we decided that we would buy their home and 16 acres.

During early March, we had an offer for the Dike house, we accepted and the “waiting process” began.  Michael was able to attend Horse Shoeing School in Oklahoma.  He was gone for two weeks.  The kids and I were able to travel up over the weekend to visit him.  We stayed in Oklahoma City and while there we visited the zoo and enjoyed site seeing.  This was the kids’ first trip out of state.  We had a good time and we were all thrilled to see Michael.  During this time we also added a new member to our family.  Jep, (wienie dog) fit in perfect and has made a wonderful pet.  He aggravates the kids just as much as they aggravate him.

We spent the month of April packing boxes and preparing for the move.  We are so glad that this was our last move.  May 13th was closing day for our Dike house and on May 15th we signed papers to purchase Granddaddy’s house.  Granddaddy’s new house construction hadn’t begun when we moved, so we all lived together while his house was being built.  Poor Granddaddy, I really do not think any of us anticipated how hard it would be to merge two family’s under one roof.  I’m sure Granddaddy was relieved to have his own space again – having a 3 and 4 year old can wear one out by just watching them play.  I wish I had Dailee and Coy’s energy.

June and July were hot months.  Michael helped my dad in the hayfield when he wasn’t at the coal mine or shoeing horses.  We also enjoyed several evenings at the lake fishing.  On July 4th we invited family, friends, and neighbors over for a fish fry.  Our front yard was filled with laughter and lawn chairs. The day was brought to a close with an excellent fireworks show that Dad and family friend,  Jay created.  I think this will become a yearly tradition.

Dailee began attending Sulphur Bluff ISD in August.  She is in the Pre Kindergarten class there.  Although she doesn’t enjoy getting up early, she is enjoying school.  My mom and dad help get her to and from school if Michael isn’t able to take her.  Some days, she rides the school bus home; she loves riding the bus.  Coy also began the PreK program at Mrs. Debbie’s in Mount Vernon.  Mrs. Debbie has been such a blessing to us.  She is a wonderful teacher and has a state recognized program.

September and October consisted of us helping Granddaddy with his move.  It has been a long and stressful process, but his new house is perfect for him.  We (along with Mom and Dad) helped him get settled and I think he is enjoying the quietness of his home.  Sometimes, Dailee will get off of the bus at his house.  He always has strawberries or ice cream waiting for her.  October also was the beginning of deer season.  Michael has a lease near Oklahoma and was able to harvest a doe with his bow.  At the end of October, we finally sold our Bremond property.  Praise the LORD!  It had been on the market for almost 3 years.

November brought cooler temperatures and a change of scenery.  The trees have been just beautiful this year.  We celebrated Thanksgiving at my parent’s home and also had a small Hare Family reunion the following weekend.  December will be filled with family time and delicious food.  We are looking forward to spending time with Michael’s family and friends in Henderson.  His parents will be coming in from Wyoming; we always look forward to seeing them.

Other highlights for our family include:
·         Hannah Eudy was born December 7, 2012 (Craig and Jill Eudy(my sister), proud parents)
·         Abbie Brooks was born June 13, 2013 (Greg and Erica Brooks (Michael’s middle sister), proud parents)
·         Jaci got a promotion at work
·         Michael attended Boom Welding School & received his certification
·         Dailee turned 4 in March
·         Coy turned 3 in October
·         The kids began showing interest in riding horses (Michael is so proud)
·         Michael began construction on the roping pen
·         After much prayer we decided that our family of 4 is complete.

Overall, 2013 has been a wonderful year.  We’ve seen many changes and have faced some difficult decisions, but for all of these happenings, we are grateful.  We hope you all have had a wonderful 2013 and we pray that you have a blessed 2014.

Sending love,

The Postell Family

Michael, Jaci, Dailee, and Coy
